Position Summary
Under the supervision of the Production Supervisor, the Machinist is in charge of reviewing blueprints and specifications of a particular product and planning the production process, including where and how to cut the work piece, the correct tools and materials for the job, and the sequence of steps to follow in production of the product.
Key Responsibilities & Authorities
- Machines parts to specifications using machine tools such as lathes, milling machines, shapers, or grinders
- Measures, examines and tests completed units in order to detect defects and ensures conformance to specifications, using precision instruments
- Sets up, adjusts and operates all of the basic machine tools and many specialized or advanced variation tools in order to perform precision machining operations
- Performing the machining operations
- Monitoring problems in the production process
- Checking the accuracy of the finished piece against blueprints
- Establishing work procedures for fabricating new structural products, using a variety of metal working machines
- Calculates dimensions and tolerances using knowledge of mathematics and instruments
- Aligns and secures holding fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, accessories and materials onto machines
- Monitors the feed and speed of machines during the machining process
- Studies sample parts, blueprints, drawings and engineering information in order to determine methods and sequences of operations needed to fabricate products and determine product dimensions and tolerances
- Selects the appropriate tools, machines and materials to be used in preparation of machinery work
- Lay outs, measures and marks metal stock in order to display placement of cuts
- Observes and listens to operating machines or equipment in order to diagnose machine malfunctions and to determine need for adjustments or repairs
- Checks work pieces to ensure that they are properly lubricated and cooled
- Maintains industrial machines, applying knowledge of mechanics, shop mathematics, metal properties, layout and machining procedures
- Positions and fastens work pieces
- Operates equipment to verify operational efficiency
- Installs repaired parts into equipment, or install new equipment
- Cleans and lubricates machines, tools, and equipment in order to remove grease, rust, stains and foreign matter
- Programs computers and electronic instruments such as numerically controlled machine tools
- Sets controls to regulate machining, or enter commands to retrieve, input or edit computerized machine control media
- Dismantles machines or equipment, using hand tools and power tools, in order to examine parts for defects and replace defective parts where needed
- Carries out any other related Jobs as and when required by the Supervisor and/or HOD
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering/technology or ITI Diploma
- Minimum 3 years of experience in production department
- Advanced knowledge of professional software
- Prior experience in inline inspection is preferred
Physical and Mental Requirements:
- Lifting and Carrying: Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
- Mobility: Must be able to walk and climb to perform duties, including maneuvering within a refinery or plant environment and accessing elevated platforms via ladders and stairwells.
- Communication: Sufficient clarity of speech and hearing, or other communication capabilities, to communicate effectively.
- Focus and Multitasking: Ability to maintain focus and multitask effectively.
- Safety Equipment: Must be able to wear safety equipment as required by the safety department for personal protection, if/where needed in manufacturing environments.
- Personal Mobility and Reflexes: Sufficient personal mobility and physical reflexes, with or without reasonable accommodations, to perform office duties and travel to off-site locations when necessary.
